I'm particularly curious about what kind of CPU would be best for playing big open-world RPGs like Elden Ring and turn-based games like Stellaris or Warhammer. I'm not planning to stream or do anything super demanding, so I'm looking for a processor that fits my gaming needs without going overboard. Any detailed suggestions for a build would be awesome!

For your needs, I’d recommend looking into AMD's CPUs with 3D V-cache. The 7800X3D is solid, but if you want to splurge, the 9800X3D is excellent too. If you’d like to save some cash, the 7600X3D is a great budget pick, especially if you have access to a Microcenter. Just out of curiosity, what monitor are you using? Knowing the resolution and refresh rate would help refine the advice further!
Honestly, your current setup sounds like it wouldn't need the top-tier CPUs. Something more affordable could work just fine!
I'm planning on keeping my old monitor; it's 1920x1080 with a refresh rate of 165Hz.
