I'm currently using an AMD Ryzen 5 5600, and I'm looking to upgrade my CPU without changing my motherboard. I want the best option available, considering that I have an NVIDIA 5070 GPU and 16GB of RAM. Most of my usage leans towards VR sim racing, so I'd like to ensure my new CPU won't bottleneck my performance. Any recommendations?

If you're looking for something more budget-friendly, the Ryzen 5700X is a solid option and typically easier to find. It offers a great balance of price and performance, especially for VR gaming.

Just a heads up, I noticed that some people mentioned the RX 5700 earlier, but don't get confused—you're using an NVIDIA 5070, right? Make sure your CPU upgrade can keep up with your GPU to avoid any bottlenecking.

For VR, you might also want to consider the Ryzen 5600X3D, as it can offer noticeable performance improvements while keeping your current setup.

The Ryzen 5800X3D is widely regarded as the top AM4 CPU for gaming. If you want something really powerful for everything, the 5950X is a great choice too. Just keep in mind that the availability of the 5800X3D can be hit or miss right now, so you might need to look around a bit.

If you're set on sticking with DDR4, consider switching over to an Intel i5 14600K when it goes on sale. You'll need a new motherboard, but it'll likely be a better value than those pricey AM4 CPUs.
