I bought a prebuilt computer in 2021 that came with a GeForce RTX 3070, 16GB of DDR4 memory, and an ASUS G10DK motherboard. I later added another 32GB of DDR4 RAM and recently upgraded the graphics card to an RTX 5070 along with a 1440p monitor. Now the current CPU is causing a noticeable bottleneck, and I suspect the CPU cooler may be failing. The original case also has poor airflow and build quality. I'd like to keep my existing DDR4 memory and RTX 5070 while replacing the case, CPU, motherboard, and cooler. My total budget is about $1,000. You don’t need to spend anywhere near the full budget. One practical combination would be an Intel Core i5-14600KF, a Gigabyte B760M Gaming Plus WiFi DDR4 motherboard, and a Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE cooler. That complete CPU, motherboard, cooler, and case combination would be roughly $470, assuming similar pricing, while retaining your existing DDR4 RAM and graphics card.
A Core i5-14600K paired with a solid B760 motherboard that specifically supports DDR4 would be a strong upgrade. Make sure the board’s product name includes DDR4, since many similar models use DDR5 instead. For cooling, the Thermalright Phantom Spirit is an excellent value. The CPU, motherboard, and cooler should generally cost around $300–$400, leaving plenty of room in your budget for a case.
