I'm looking for a GPU mainly for 1440p gaming over the next two or three years. My absolute budget is around $700 new or roughly $500–$600 used, and I'd prefer something that won't lose all of its value when the next generation launches. I expect to upgrade within the first six months of the next generation, so this is more of a capable holdover card than a long-term purchase.
I'll be pairing it with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D or possibly a 7600X3D, an 850W power supply, and 32GB of DDR5-6000 CL30 memory. I'd like at least 16GB of VRAM if possible, but I'm wondering whether a 12GB card is still reasonable for 1440p. The goal is to run nearly every current and upcoming game well without buying something that will be difficult to resell in 2028 or 2029. Ideally, I'd find a commonly available used card for $600 or less rather than relying on a rare bargain.

An RTX 5070 or RX 9070 could fit the budget. The RTX 5070 may be easier to resell because of broader brand demand, but the RX 9070 generally offers more VRAM and stronger value for 1440p. Choose based on the actual used prices in your area rather than assuming one will definitely retain more value.
If you want the least expensive option that still makes sense, look at the RX 9060 XT 16GB, RX 9070, or RX 9070 XT. The 16GB 9060 XT is likely to cost less, but it gives up performance compared with the 9070 cards. An RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is another possibility, though its price-to-performance ratio is usually weaker.
A 12GB GPU is still usable for 1440p, especially if you are willing to adjust texture quality or avoid heavy graphical mods. Sixteen gigabytes is more of a safety margin for future games, higher settings, and texture packs rather than an absolute requirement for every 1440p build.
Used RX 7900 XT or RX 7900 XTX cards could also be good choices if you can find them at attractive prices. They have plenty of VRAM and strong rasterized 1440p performance, although their future resale value is harder to predict and they may lack some newer features compared with current-generation cards.
I’m mainly trying to keep the purchase price low while still getting decent resale value later, so the 9060 XT is worth checking if the performance is enough for my games.
