I'm considering replacing my RTX 2060, although the rest of my system is also getting old: an i5-9400F, 32GB of RAM, and an ASRock B365M Pro4F motherboard. I'm mainly looking for a mid-range gaming GPU, such as a used RTX 4060, 4060 Ti, or 4070, or possibly a new RTX 5060. I've seen used 4060 Ti and 4070 cards listed for around $250–$300. I realize the CPU will bottleneck a faster card in some games, but I plan to upgrade the platform later. My main goal is to be ready for strong performance when GTA 6 eventually releases on PC. One important limitation is that my current power supply is 500W, and it is also around seven years old. Which GPU would make the most sense?

Don’t rule out AMD if this is mainly for gaming. AMD cards can offer better performance for the money. Before choosing anything, check the exact PSU model and its available PCIe power connectors. A seven-year-old 500W unit is a concern unless it was a particularly good model, and anything above the RTX 4060-class may need a PSU upgrade.
I’d be cautious about buying another 8GB card, since newer games may exceed that at high settings. A used RTX 3080 or RTX 4070 would be a stronger target, but a 3080 generally needs more power, so you’d likely have to replace the 500W PSU as well.
A new RTX 5060 can still be a reasonable, relatively simple upgrade for an older system, and it should be easier on the PSU than higher-end cards. However, I wouldn’t buy specifically for GTA 6 yet. If the PC version follows the usual release pattern, it may not arrive for several years, and both GPU prices and available hardware could look very different by then.
Your motherboard can support up to a 9th-generation CPU, so an i7-9700K or i9-9900K would be the platform limit, though upgrading the whole CPU and motherboard later is probably more sensible. For the GPU, a used RTX 3080 Ti could offer a substantial jump, but it would definitely require checking power, thermals, and the condition of the used card. PCIe compatibility itself shouldn’t prevent a newer GPU from working, although the older platform may limit performance in some situations.
