What graphics card should I upgrade to for 144Hz 1080p gaming?

I'm looking for the best GPU for smooth gaming with a budget of around $400, though I could stretch to $500 if the upgrade is worthwhile. I've heard the RTX 3060 is a solid choice, but I'd like to compare it with newer or better-value options.

My current system is running Windows 10 Pro and includes an Intel Core i7-10700KF, 32 GB of RAM, and an RTX 2060. I game on an LG UltraGear 1920×1080 144Hz monitor. The PC was assembled about four or five years ago, so I'd also appreciate advice on whether the power supply or any other components need to be upgraded before installing a new graphics card.

The Radeon RX 9060 XT with 16 GB of VRAM looks like one of the strongest new options in this price range. It should be a substantial upgrade over the RTX 2060 and is a good fit for 1080p high-refresh gaming. After installing it, use Display Driver Uninstaller to remove the old NVIDIA drivers before installing the AMD drivers.

I wouldn’t pay much for an RTX 3060 at this point; it only makes sense if you find one around $200 or less. A used RTX 4070 could be worthwhile around $500, assuming it’s in good condition. Used higher-end cards such as the RX 6900 XT may also offer strong performance, but check the seller carefully and make sure your power supply can handle them.

Depending on local pricing, the RX 9060 XT 8 GB around $400, the 16 GB version around $470, or a Radeon RX 9070 GRE around $530 are reasonable choices. The 16 GB 9060 XT is probably the easiest recommendation if you want a new card without replacing the rest of the system. Before buying, verify the power supply’s wattage, available PCIe cables, and required connectors. Your i7-10700KF and 32 GB of RAM should be adequate for this upgrade at 1080p.
