I made a mistake and accidentally connected 12V from my power supply to a USB 3 port on my desktop PC. The computer didn't shut down on its own, but when I tried to restart it, it only goes through the boot sequence where the motherboard checks the RAM and CPU, then the RAM light comes back on, and it seems to get stuck. I'm really worried that I might have damaged my CPU or RAM in the process. My motherboard is an Asus Prime X670E-Pro Wifi. Just to give you some context, I connected a USB-to-COM cable chain to a VFD Customer Display, not realizing the power issue until it was too late. Is there any chance that something is still okay?

Have you tried checking the motherboard with a multimeter? It could help you pinpoint what’s still working and what’s not. Also, double-check any lights on the motherboard to see if they indicate specific problems. Let us know how that goes!

I’m not sure what I’d need to measure either. Can you give me a bit more detail on that?
