I recently started learning Python and am enjoying it, but I'm still at the beginner stage. I want to build a solid understanding of programming fundamentals instead of only following tutorials. What projects, resources, or habits helped you improve the most? I'm currently working on lists, loops, functions, and data, with the long-term goal of using Python for backend deployment, automation, and eventually AI.

Once you understand the basic syntax and programming concepts, start building small projects that solve problems in your own life. That could be a data-scraping script, an automation tool, or something that works with an API. Youโ€™ll learn much more by figuring out how to make a useful idea work than by copying a project step by step. Over time, also explore related areas such as web frameworks, data processing, and deployment.

The doctest module is worth learning. It lets you place examples in documentation strings and run them as tests, which is a simple way to practice writing code and checking that it behaves as expected.

MellowCedar42: Thanks, Iโ€™ll look into doctest. It sounds like a good way to combine examples with basic testing while Iโ€™m learning.

Focus on the fundamentalsโ€”especially lists, loops, functions, and working with dataโ€”then practice by solving beginner-friendly coding challenges. Small exercises are useful for making those concepts feel natural, but try to move into personal projects fairly quickly so you learn how the pieces fit together.
