What is the correct airflow direction for the Noctua NH-L12S in a vertical case?

I'm setting up my CPU cooler and need some help figuring out the right airflow direction for my configuration. I'm using a vertical mATX case (Lian Li Dan A3) with a top-flow cooler, the Noctua NH-L12S. Since the motherboard is mounted vertically, the cooler's fan is pointing toward the side panel rather than the top or bottom. The layout goes CPU, then heatsink/fins, and the fan is blowing air out toward the side. ChatGPT keeps telling me that even though the fan appears to be facing sideways, it still directs airflow upward through the heatsink. I've tried looking online for clarification but can't find anything definitive. Here are a few specific things I need to check: 1. Does a top-flow cooler like the NH-L12S move air vertically through the fins even when it's sideways in a vertical case? 2. ChatGPT claims the side with the logo is the air intake, but the arrows on the fan suggest it blows air out instead. 3. Does the arrow showing the blade rotation direction matter? ChatGPT insists it needs to point upward, but that would make my CPU fan cable too short to reach the motherboard. Any insights from folks familiar with this cooler would be greatly appreciated!

It doesn’t really matter how you mount the cooler; the fan will blow air based on its design, regardless of the orientation. Just make sure that the airflow direction arrow is pointing toward the heatsink if you're using it properly, even in low-profile mode. You might be overthinking this a bit!

Thanks for the reassurance!

According to Noctua's website, the cooler should blow either up or down depending on your case fan orientations. Check the "key features" section for that info. It can be hard to find, but it states that airflow direction is key!

I get what you're saying! Since my case is vertical, I'm guessing the airflow is more sideways then? That'll change how I set things up.
