I'm building a system around a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and an RTX 5070 Ti, and I want a motherboard that lets the combination perform well without overspending. I'll be using two NVMe SSDs and would ideally prefer ASUS, although I'm open to other brands. Is a B850 board enough, or would an X870/X670E model offer meaningful advantages?

Look for a board with a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot and enough M.2 slots for both of your NVMe drives. A used X670E, X870, or X870E board can also be worth considering if you find one at a good price, since those platforms may provide more connectivity and features than a similarly priced B850 board.
The ASUS TUF B850 is a solid option, but I’d personally spend a little more on the MSI B850 Tomahawk if the pricing is close. The Gigabyte Aorus Elite X870 is another proven choice and handles the 9800X3D without any trouble. For most gaming-focused builds, B850 is the sensible choice.
A good B850 board around $200 should be more than enough for this build. The Gigabyte B850 Aorus Elite and MSI B850 Tomahawk Max are both strong options. You don’t really need X870 unless you specifically want extra USB ports or other expansion features.
If you prefer ASUS, the ROG Strix B850-F Gaming WiFi is a reasonable choice, especially when it’s discounted. Just compare its price and features against the MSI and Gigabyte alternatives, since ASUS boards can sometimes cost more without offering much extra.
