What motherboard should I choose for a 9950X3D and RTX 5080?

I'm having trouble deciding on a dependable motherboard around the $200 price range. Every manufacturer seems to get mixed reviews for customer support, so I'm mainly looking for solid performance and reliability rather than a specific brand. The system will use a Ryzen 9 9950X3D and an RTX 5080 for heavy gaming and video editing. What boards or features should I prioritize?

Two good options to compare are the MSI B850 Tomahawk Max and the Gigabyte B850 Aorus Elite. Both should be worth considering for this kind of gaming and editing system, but double-check the exact modelโs storage, networking, and rear USB features before buying.

Start by checking whether the boardโs VRM is strong enough to run the 9950X3D at full performance. After that, choose based on the features you actually need, such as Wi-Fi, USB connectivity, and the number of M.2 slots. Iโd want at least three M.2 slots in a high-end build like this, if possible.

BrightNook62: Make sure you look at actual VRM temperature and power testing, not just whether a board technically supports the processor. Some weaker boards can run it but may throttle or operate at unsafe temperatures under sustained all-core loads. For this CPU, Iโd target a board with a well-reviewed power design and four M.2 slots if the budget allows.
