I'm considering replacing my Gigabyte Gaming X V2 (revision 1.3) with a better motherboard. I don't urgently need an upgrade, but this board feels limited—especially because it doesn't have enough fan headers. I'm also wondering whether it could be contributing to unusually high CPU temperature readings, since my Ryzen 7 5800X idles above 60°C even after cleaning and repasting it. I'm using a Liquid Freezer II, and the same cooler performs normally with an identical CPU in another system, so I'm fairly confident the cooler itself isn't the problem. B550 boards are difficult to find new where I live, so I'm open to buying one used. What models would be a good step up?

Before replacing the motherboard, I’d be cautious about assuming it’s responsible for the idle temperatures. Motherboards usually don’t cause a CPU to run hot unless there’s a sensor or BIOS problem. Check the BIOS version, pump speed, fan curves, background CPU usage, and whether the temperature is being read from the CPU package or another sensor. For extra fan connections, a powered PWM fan hub is much cheaper than changing the whole board.
The Liquid Freezer II is already working normally in another system with the same processor, so I’m mainly looking for a board with better fan-header support and more reliable monitoring.
