What PC budget should I target for 1440p gaming at 100–144 FPS next year?

I'm planning to build or buy a gaming PC sometime next year and want smooth 1440p performance around 100–144 FPS in most games. My budget could go up to about 30,000 Swedish kronor, roughly $3,000 before accounting for regional taxes and pricing, but I'd rather not spend that much unless it's genuinely worthwhile. Should I wait for the next generation of CPUs and GPUs, or buy current-generation hardware? Also, how much RAM should I target? I haven't followed PC hardware closely recently, so I'd appreciate guidance on where the money matters most.

For this kind of build, 32 GB of DDR5 RAM is the sensible target, ideally around 6000 MT/s with good timings. A 2 TB NVMe SSD is also a comfortable starting point. For 1440p at that frame rate, a strong gaming CPU paired with a GPU in the upper-midrange to high-end class should be enough, but you probably don’t need to spend the full 30,000 kr. An 850 W quality power supply gives you plenty of headroom. Choose reputable parts and prioritize the graphics card, monitor, and overall build quality over expensive memory or SSD models.

RAM and storage pricing may rise or fluctuate, so those are the only components worth considering early if you find an unusually good deal. I wouldn’t buy a GPU or CPU far in advance, though. Graphics cards change quickly, and buying too early can leave you with less performance for the same money. For most current games, 32 GB is the right amount of RAM; 64 GB is mainly useful for heavy productivity, modded games, or keeping a lot of demanding applications open.

Since you won’t be buying until next year, I’d avoid locking in exact CPU and motherboard models now. New processor and graphics-card launches could change the best-value options, so compare prices and benchmarks closer to the purchase date. The general target should still be a modern gaming-focused CPU, 32 GB of RAM, a fast 2 TB SSD, and a GPU capable of handling your preferred 1440p refresh rate.
