What PC build can handle 1440p gaming for around $1,000 CAD?

I'm currently a PS5 player and want to build my first gaming PC myself. I'm aiming for 1440p gaming and would like to keep the budget near $1,000 CAD, although I could stretch it if the extra money makes a meaningful difference. I live near Saskatoon and would also appreciate advice on where to buy the parts, whether new or used. What CPU, GPU, memory, storage, power supply, and other components should I look at, and what kind of performance could I expect compared with a PS5?

At $1,000 CAD, 1440p gaming is much more realistic with a mix of used and new parts. A Ryzen 5 3600 or similar CPU with a compatible B450/B550 motherboard, 16 GB of dual-channel DDR4, and a used RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT would be a reasonable target. Those GPUs can deliver performance around or somewhat above a console in many games, though exact results depend on settings and whether the game supports upscaling. Iโd buy the power supply and SSD new, while checking local classifieds for the CPU, motherboard, memory, case, and graphics card.

If every part has to be new, $1,000 CAD is a very tight budget for a good 1440p system in Canada. You may need to play some demanding games at high 1080p or use upscaling at 1440p. Raising the budget to roughly $1,300โ$1,500 CAD gives you much more room for a modern six-core CPU, 32 GB of memory, a stronger graphics card, and a reliable power supply. Compare complete builds and current Canadian prices before ordering, since sales can change which parts offer the best value.

Donโt cut corners on the power supply or storage just to fit a faster GPU. Use a reputable 650โ750 W power supply with a solid review history and a dependable 1 TB NVMe SSD. For parts near Saskatoon, compare Canadian computer retailers with local used listings; used GPUs and platforms can save a lot, but test them in person when possible and confirm that the motherboard, memory, and power connectors are compatible.
