I'm completely new to PC gaming and am switching from console. I have about $1,500 to spend and would like advice on the best parts and specifications I can get. I may also need a monitor, so I'm not sure whether the budget should cover just the computer or the whole setup.

The graphics card should get the largest share of the budget because it has the biggest effect on gaming performance. Choose the games and resolution you want first, then build around the GPU. DDR4 is still perfectly usable and can reduce the cost, while newer DDR5 platforms may require more expensive supporting parts. Used components from trustworthy local sellers can also stretch the budget, but research prices and test everything carefully.
A balanced build around a Ryzen 5 5600, a B550 motherboard, 16GB of DDR4 memory, a 512GB NVMe SSD, and a midrange graphics card would be a solid starting point. If the $1,500 includes a monitor, you can still target 1440p gaming, but make sure the power supply is a reputable model rather than using a low-cost case-and-PSU combo.
Thanks, that gives me a much better idea of what parts to look for.
Be careful with any list that has one 16GB memory stick at an unusually high price. Two matching sticks are usually better for performance and value.

I don’t have friends who know much about PCs, but I’ll compare prices and research the parts before buying.
