I'm planning a new PC mainly for Counter-Strike 2 and would like to take advantage of a 600 Hz Zowie monitor. I play at a stretched resolution with competitive low settings, so I care more about maximum FPS, stable frame times, and strong 1% lows than visual quality. I'm currently considering a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, an RTX 5080, and 32–48 GB of DDR5-6200 CL30 memory. I don't have a strict budget, but I want a sensible performance-to-value build instead of paying for parts that will not make a meaningful difference in CS2. For anyone who has tested high-refresh CS2 systems, what hardware and tuning would you recommend? Is consistently averaging close to 600 FPS realistic, and would this CPU/GPU combination be excessive or appropriate for making use of a 600 Hz display?

If the goal is to chase the absolute highest averages and 1% lows, memory tuning can make a noticeable difference in CPU-limited games. A well-binned Hynix DDR5 kit with tight timings, tuned subtimings, tREFI, and tRFC may outperform a basic DDR5-6200 CL30 kit. However, memory overclocking is fairly time-consuming and gains are not guaranteed. Even with aggressive tuning and a top-end X3D processor, holding 600 FPS at all times is unlikely; demanding scenes and large fights can still pull 1% lows far below the average.
You probably do not need to spend more than a 9800X3D, 32 GB of good DDR5, and a strong modern GPU. At competitive settings, the GPU is unlikely to be the main limitation, so an RTX 5080 may already be more than enough. A 9070 XT-class card could also be sufficient if pricing is better. Focus on repeatable benchmark runs, frametime consistency, and 1% lows rather than expecting the average FPS counter to stay at 600 in every situation.
A 9800X3D paired with an RTX 5080 is already an extremely powerful competitive-gaming setup. At low settings and stretched resolutions, CS2 will often be CPU-limited, so optimizing the game, drivers, BIOS, and background processes may matter more than moving to an even faster graphics card. Some players also experiment with CPU core affinity on X3D chips, but results can vary and it is worth benchmarking each change rather than assuming it helps.
So with a well-optimized system and some sensible overclocking, could that combination average close to 600 FPS?
