Hey everyone! I'm trying to find out the PCIe generation for my B360M Xtreme motherboard from Cyberpower. I've heard mixed opinions—some say it's PCIe 4.0 while others claim it's PCIe 3.0. I'm looking to upgrade to a WD_BLACK SN7100, which is a PCIe 4.0 device. I know these things are backwards compatible, but if I don't need to pay extra for PCIe 4.0, I'd rather not. Also, the specs for the B360M Xtreme show it as M-ATX with 4 RAM slots, AC Wi-Fi, USB 3.1, SATA3, and 2x M.2 slots. Any insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

So here's the scoop: the PCIe lanes provided by your CPU are key. The B360 chipset supports 8th and 9th gen Intel processors, which only offer PCIe 3.0. So regardless of the motherboard, you won’t get PCIe 4.0 speeds if your CPU is from that generation. Basically, the B360 board can only function up to PCIe 3.0 due to the CPU limitations.

Thanks for clarifying! I thought I might get higher speeds, but now it makes sense.
