I'm thinking about upgrading my graphics card from an RTX 3060 Ti to something like an RTX 4070 Super, but I'm not sure what factors I should check first. How do I decide whether the upgrade is worthwhile, and are there better options for the money? I'd appreciate advice on performance gains, pricing, VRAM, power requirements, and anything else I should verify before buying.

Compare current street prices rather than relying only on the 4070 Superโ€™s original pricing. Depending on your region, a Radeon RX 9070 XT may offer more performance and 16 GB of VRAM for less money than a new 4070 Super, which generally has 12 GB. If youโ€™re considering used hardware, a 4070 Super could make more sense around $500, but check the cardโ€™s condition and remaining warranty.

The right choice mostly comes down to your budget and use case. If the 3060 Ti already handles your games well at your target settings, there may not be much reason to upgrade yet. Look at benchmarks for the specific games you play, calculate the performance gained per dollar, and make sure the jump is large enough to justify the expense.

Start by identifying what your 3060 Ti is struggling with and what you want the new card to improve. Check the games or applications you use, your resolution and refresh rate, desired graphics settings, and whether you need features such as ray tracing or upscaling. Also confirm that your power supply, case clearance, and CPU wonโ€™t hold back the upgrade.
