What should I do if I suspect a colleague is stealing recycled tech devices?

I've been at my job for three years, and while we're improving after years of mismanagement, I've noticed something troubling. We have a stockpile of iPhone 13s and older laptops just sitting in storage without any tracking or security. Recently, a colleague of mine has been posting these exact models for sale on Facebook Marketplace. I suspect he might be taking company devices to sell for personal profit, but I don't have proof—our inventory hasn't changed in the last couple of months. I'm unsure whether I should report this or just keep it to myself, especially since it's not clearly part of my job to investigate. How do I handle this situation?

You should think about improving how your company tracks assets. It sounds like there’s a lot of valuable stuff just sitting around. Maybe consider suggesting a system where everything is tagged and inventoried properly. This could help you in the long run and could prevent theft as well.

I agree, having better tracking in place would make a huge difference. It could clarify the situation without making accusations.

If you don't have clear evidence, it might be best to hold off on taking action. It's possible he bought those devices from elsewhere and is reselling them, so jumping to conclusions could lead to misunderstandings.
