What should I do if someone is threatening my sister online?

I recently discovered that someone has been harassing my sister through Facebook. This person has sent her threatening messages and has even commented on childhood photos, falsely claiming they have nude pictures of her. They also mentioned our home address, which is concerning since there are still young children living there. The account appears to be new, with only my sister as a friend and no other identifiable information. I'm looking for advice on how to handle this situation and find out more about this individual. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I agree with others here—just focus on reporting the user. Engaging with them or trying to confront them could lead to more problems. It’s easier to let the authorities or Facebook handle it.

Yeah, also avoid any kind of social engineering methods like phishing to try to get information. Those can backfire massively. Your best bet is to report and let professionals handle it.

First off, don’t engage with this creep. It can make things worse. Instead, report the account to Facebook for abuse. Collect any messages or screenshots of the threats to have evidence if needed. If the harassment continues, you might want to consider reporting it to law enforcement, especially given the address mention.

Yeah, definitely report it. I wouldn't trust any random online advice about tracking them down. Best to go through official channels.

If you're in India, you can file a cyber complaint with the police. It’s really important to take this seriously and report it, as there are laws in place to help with online harassment.
