I recently finished my first custom PC build, and now my old pre-fab unit from Best Buy is just gathering dust. It was a decent machine back in 2017 with specs like a Radeon 570 and a Ryzen 7 1700x, but at 8 years old, I'm wondering what's the best way to deal with it. Should I try to strip it for parts and sell them, or is it better to recycle the whole unit? Also, how do I securely delete my data before parting with it? Thanks in advance!

I've found that downcycling is a great option! I usually repurpose old parts into my home theater PC or even a NAS setup. If that's not possible for you, consider selling it as is after wiping the drives. Even if it's just a few hundred bucks, it can be a solid budget option for someone. You could even market it as a "starter gaming PC" for kids if you wanted to jazz it up a bit with some RGB lights.
