I know the basics of Python, pandas, matplotlib, and database management systems, but I want to move into more advanced programming. What should I study next, which languages or technologies are currently useful, and how can I use AI as part of my learning without becoming dependent on it?

Learning C can give you a strong foundation because it exposes memory, pointers, compilation, and how programs interact with the operating system. If you use Windows, a Linux environment such as WSL can help you practice with command-line tools and documentation. After completing an introductory course, start making small projects rather than doing only isolated exercisesโ€”things like a command-line utility, a simple file manager, or a small data structure library. Use exercises to fill specific gaps, but let projects drive your learning.

Books and structured courses are still useful. Pick a good book that matches your level, read a section, and type out the examples yourself instead of just skimming them. Then build a small project that uses the same ideas before moving on to another resource.

Use AI as a tool, not as a replacement for thinking. Build projects, get stuck, research the problem, try a solution, and then test and improve it. That cycle will teach you much more than simply asking AI to generate finished code.

MellowCedar42: Are there any other programming languages you would recommend learning after Python?
