I'm in Canada and want to improve an older Dell Inspiron 620 for gaming. My budget is under $1,000 CAD, and I'd like advice on which parts—if any—are worth prioritizing, along with reliable upgrade guides or tutorials. I'm open to replacing the system if upgrading this computer isn't practical.

With a budget below $1,000 CAD, I’d put the money toward a new entry-level gaming PC rather than trying to modernize the Inspiron. A new build with a current six-core processor, 16 GB of memory, an SSD, and a midrange graphics card would be a much better starting point. Before recommending exact parts, it would help to know your maximum budget, since “under $1,000” could mean anything from $600 to $999.
That computer is roughly 15 years old, so there really isn’t a worthwhile upgrade path. The processor, motherboard, memory, power supply, and likely the case and storage are all outdated. For gaming, you’d get much better value from building or buying a new system and reusing the old computer only for basic tasks.
