What should I try first after switching from Windows to Omarchy?

I installed Omarchy as my first Linux distribution after using Windows for years. I chose it because the defaults looked polished and I wanted to avoid spending my first week configuring a window manager from scratch. I'm currently learning Hyprland and its keybindings, and everything already feels noticeably faster, but I'm probably only using a small part of what the system offers. What open-source tools, workflows, or everyday tweaks gave you that "this is why people use Linux" feeling? Are there beginner mistakes or system changes I should avoid, and should I start learning the underlying Arch concepts now or simply use the preconfigured setup for a while?

The best first step is simply using the computer for the things you already enjoy. Install Steam if you play games, set up development tools if you code, or customize the desktop if that interests you. Linux doesnโ€™t have one required progression path, so follow your own needs rather than trying to learn everything at once.

For now, just use the machine normally and let questions come up naturally. When you need a feature, look into it then. That approach teaches you the parts of Linux that are actually useful to your workflow without turning the first week into a configuration project.

A privacy-focused browser is an easy quality-of-life improvement if that matters to you. Beyond that, take time to learn the basics of your setup and the Arch tools underneath it, but donโ€™t rush into changing major system components just because a guide tells you to. The main beginner hazard is pasting terminal commands without understanding what they doโ€”check commands first, especially anything involving system files, packages, or permissions.
