What Size Thermal Pads Should I Use Between AMD Chipsets and Heatsink?

Hey everyone! I'm about to reassemble my computer soon, but I'm uncertain about the size of thermal pads (in mm) I need to use between the AMD chipsets and the heatsink. I had to take off the heatsink, disrupting the thermal pads, because my motherboard has the CMOS/BIOS CR2032 battery right near the chipsets, and it sits underneath the heatsink. Any advice would be appreciated!

I'm curious why you needed to remove the chipset heatsink in the first place. If you're replacing the pads, you might be able to just measure the old ones. It's not something most users do often, so there might not be a lot of easily available information about the size. You might want to buy a few different thicknesses to see what fits best!

I had no choice, really! The CMOS battery was right next to the chipsets, and I had to get it out after a water spill. It was a necessary move on my part.

Using thermal paste instead of thermal pads for the chipsets isn't really a great idea. Thermal pads are specifically designed for this purpose, while thermal paste could lead to issues like less effective heat transfer. You should definitely stick with pads for the best performance!
