What to Do After Getting Water in My iPhone’s Charging Port?

Hey everyone, I accidentally got some water in the USB port of my iPhone 16. I saw a warning message advising that there was water in the connectors and to unplug it to prevent damage. That was about 36 hours ago. I've kept my phone upright with a fan on it and even put it in a Ziploc bag with silica gel for part of that time. Now that the phone is turned off and isn't giving the error anymore, can I safely use a MagSafe or wireless charger? Or should I wait longer or take it somewhere? Thanks for the help!

You might want to restart the phone, just in case it’s stuck on the water detection alert. If it’s still off, that's good! But once you turn it back on, watch out for that message. If it happens again, definitely consult with Apple support.

Gotcha, I’ll try that before charging.

Since it’s been 36 hours, it might still be worth checking the port for any debris. A lot can happen with leftover gunk in there, so maybe use some bamboo toothpicks to gently clean it out. Better safe than sorry!

Thanks! I'll definitely give that a try.

You should be fine to use a wireless charger now. The consensus is that a couple of hours is usually enough time to let the port dry out. Just keep an eye on the warning; if it pops up again, take it to an Apple Store for a check-up.

Appreciate it! I was worried about potential long-term effects.

It's really important to check if the port is dried out. iPhone 16 has some water resistance (IP68), so it shouldn’t be too damaged. But if you want to be extra cautious, clean it up a bit and then test the charger again.

Thanks for the reassurance! I think the port is dry but I’ll check again.
