I'm looking to build a replacement for my still-functioning i7-930, which I've had since 2010. I primarily use my PC for household tasks and family photos, so gaming isn't a priority. Over the years, I've upgraded some components like RAM, SSDs, and video cards, but my CPU and motherboard have been solid since day one. Now, I'm not really up to speed on new tech, and I'm wondering what specs I should aim for if I'm hoping to have this new setup last for another decade. I'm looking for at least 64GB of RAM for running VMs and want to reuse my GTX 1660. If I consider AMD, what should I look for? And for Intel, are the 1-2 generation processors reliable? I also prioritize reliability over performance, so I'm okay with lower-end components as long as they last. I do want to avoid replacing the motherboard if I can help it, but I'm open to periodic upgrades.

For a solid 10-year build, I recommend an AM5 system with a Ryzen 9700X and pairing it with a B650 or B850 motherboard. You can get 64GB of DDR5 RAM, and this setup will be a great value compared to Intel's alternatives, giving you room to grow.
You should consider going with the AM5 platform and a Ryzen 7500F or 7600. These options will significantly outperform your current i7-930. Plus, it's easy to upgrade the CPU later on without changing the motherboard, which fits your needs perfectly.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely look into that.
