What User-Friendly 32-Bit Linux OS Can Run on an Older Laptop?

I have an older laptop that cannot run a 64-bit operating system. I've tried downloading several 32-bit systems, but none of them have worked, and I haven't been able to find much useful guidance. Which user-friendly 32-bit operating systems are still available, and what hardware or error information should I provide to troubleshoot the installation?
Answers
More details are needed before anyone can recommend the right system. Please include the exact CPU model, amount of RAM, graphics hardware, and what happens when each installer fails. Some older processors have unusual limitations, so the CPU model is especially important.

Slackware is another possibility, but it is not usually the easiest choice for someone looking for a user-friendly desktop. A lightweight 32-bit distribution with a simple desktop environment would probably be a better starting point once the laptopโs specifications are known.

Official 32-bit support is becoming uncommon in current Linux releases. MX Linux still provides 32-bit images in some versions, and older releases of other distributions may work, but they may not receive support forever. If the laptop is genuinely limited to 32-bit, choosing an older, lightweight release may be necessary.

Alpine Linux or NetBSD could be worth investigating for very old hardware. Alpine is capable and lightweight, although its package selection and setup can feel less beginner-friendly than a typical desktop distribution.
