What’s a good affordable laptop for coding on the go?

I'm looking for a reasonably inexpensive laptop that I can take to different places while working on coding projects. The goal is to get more hands-on programming experience away from my desk, so I'd like something portable with enough performance for common development tools. I'm open to buying refurbished or used hardware if that offers better value.

If your budget is higher, a used MacBook Air with an M-series chip is a solid portable option. Try to get 16GB of memory if you’ll be using heavier tools such as Xcode, since development environments can use quite a bit of RAM.

A Framework laptop is worth considering if you want something newer and repairable, though it won’t be the cheapest choice. For a tight budget, I’d start with a refurbished ThinkPad or similar business laptop instead.

I’ve had good luck finding used laptops through repair shops and resale marketplaces. Refurbished Dell or HP business models can often be found for under $200, and installing a lightweight Linux distribution can give older hardware a new lease on life.

A refurbished business laptop is probably the best value. Older Lenovo ThinkPads, especially the T-series, are durable, inexpensive, and usually work very well with Linux. A model from a few years ago with an SSD and 16GB of RAM should feel responsive for most coding projects.
