I currently don't own any PC components, but I'd like to start setting aside money each month for my first build. I want something affordable that can run most Minecraft modpacks, especially Create-based packs, so I can play with my brother. I'm not sure what budget I should aim for yet, though I was considering around R5,000 and would also be open to buying parts gradually or looking at used hardware. What CPU, GPU, and other components would make sense?

Start with the budget and work upward rather than choosing parts randomly. An AMD processor is a sensible option, and you’ll need a compatible motherboard and memory. For graphics, AMD can be a good choice on Linux, while Nvidia is also worth considering if you’ll be using Windows. Make sure the CPU and GPU are reasonably balanced so one doesn’t hold the other back, and don’t cut corners on the power supply—choose an inexpensive unit from a reputable brand instead of an unknown ultra-cheap model. An M.2 SSD is preferable for faster loading.
The cheapest suitable CPU and GPU combination depends heavily on local prices, especially at around R5,000. For modded Minecraft, prioritize a decent CPU, enough RAM, and an SSD; many large packs benefit more from CPU performance and memory than from an expensive graphics card. It may be worth saving longer or checking reliable used systems and parts, since a complete new gaming PC at that budget will be difficult.
