I'm currently using a Ryzen 7 5700X with the AMD stock cooler. Temperatures are usually around 45–85°C, although it occasionally gets hotter than I'd like. I'm planning to upgrade to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D and would like an inexpensive cooler that can handle it reliably. I was considering the Arctic Freezer 36—would that be sufficient, or are there better affordable alternatives?

A large cooler like the Noctua NH-D15 will work very well, but it usually isn’t the best value for a budget upgrade. With an undervolt, it can keep a 5800X3D in the mid-to-high 60s under heavy load, though a Peerless Assassin or Arctic Freezer 36 should be enough for much less money.
You can also reduce the processor’s power limit or undervolt it. The 5800X3D often responds well to a negative curve offset, which can lower temperatures while preserving most of its performance. Just check stability after changing settings.
Other capable budget options include the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120, Frost Spirit 140, and DeepCool AK620. A quality thermal paste can help a little, but the cooler and case airflow matter more than spending a lot on paste.
The Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 is one of the safest budget recommendations. Its dual-tower design and two fans provide plenty of cooling for the 5800X3D without costing much.
The Arctic Freezer 36 is a perfectly reasonable choice and should handle the 5800X3D, especially with decent case airflow. Thermalright’s Phantom Spirit 120 or Peerless Assassin 120 are good alternatives if they’re similarly priced where you live.
The Arctic Freezer 36 should also work, but the Peerless Assassin generally has more cooling headroom because it uses a larger dual-tower heatsink.
