I'm planning to replace my troublesome Core i9-13900K with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and want a stable AM5 motherboard with DDR5 support. I'm willing to spend more if that helps avoid compatibility and boot problems. Which B850 or X870 boards would you recommend for a reliable gaming-focused system? I'm also open to other CPU suggestions if there's a better option for gaming.

For good value, the MSI PRO X870-P WiFi is worth considering. It has a solid feature set and should be more than capable for a 9800X3D gaming build.
The Sapphire B850M has been working well for me. I’d personally be cautious with ASRock boards when pairing them with an X3D processor.

Don’t feel pressured to buy extremely fast DDR5. AM5 systems are usually happiest around DDR5-6000 to 6400, while pushing beyond roughly 7000 MT/s can create stability problems. Very high memory speeds also matter less with an X3D chip because the extra 3D V-Cache reduces the impact of memory latency. For gaming without heavy overclocking, choose a board with competent VRMs and the ports you actually need. I’ve used a Ryzen 7 9700X with a Gigabyte X870 Eagle for nearly two years without problems. It’s a relatively affordable X870 board, although I would probably choose the MSI B850 Tomahawk WiFi now that B850 is available.
I’m willing to spend more at this point if it gives me a more stable build, so I’ll also look at the higher-end MSI options.
