I'm looking for some recommendations on a beginner-friendly Linux distribution that can run well on older hardware. Specifically, I have a laptop from around 2008 with a Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB of RAM. I want to use it mainly for running some older Steam games like Half-Life. I'd really appreciate any guidance or suggestions you might have, thanks!

Have you considered using Linux Mint or Zorin? They both have a reputation for being beginner-friendly and should work well on older hardware.
From my experience, Linux Mint is super easy to use and offers solid compatibility with Steam, which could be perfect for your gaming needs. Give it a shot!
I'd recommend trying MX Linux. It's a midweight distro and has worked really well for my old x230 laptop. It’s user-friendly and should run great on your 2008 model.
I personally prefer MX Linux, but you might also consider any Debian-based distros. If the system feels sluggish, try switching to a lighter desktop like XFCE instead of KDE. Mint is very popular too and Ubuntu is always a solid choice.

Thanks for the suggestion! I've heard good things about Mint.
