What's the Best CPU Upgrade for Socket 1151?

I'm looking to improve my gaming performance, especially to consistently hit 144 fps in CS2. I currently have an i5-9400F paired with a 2060 and 16GB of RAM. I've seen a ton of discussions about CPU upgrades, but the suggestions vary a lot. One option is a friend's i7-9700F, but I'm not sure if that'll make a noticeable difference. What would be the best CPU upgrade on the 1151 socket for my setup?

Upgrading from a 9400F to a 9700F is gonna be a big boost for competitive gaming. The extra threads and higher boost clock can really make a difference, even in some AAA titles. Definitely go for it if the price is right!

While the i9-9900X is powerful, remember it's not compatible with your motherboard since it's for the LGA 2066 socket. You might want to stick with the LGA 1151 options.

I switched from the i5-9400F to the i9-9900KF a while back, and the performance increase was really noticeable. Just make sure you’re getting it at a reasonable price. It's worth it if you can find one for a good deal!
