What’s the best GPU under $550 for 1440p gaming with a Ryzen 7 7700X?

I'm shopping for a graphics card priced at $550 or less for 1440p gaming with a Ryzen 7 7700X. I mainly play games such as Minecraft, Icarus, Scrap Mechanic, and Grounded. I'd like at least 10GB of VRAM and hope to reach roughly 90 FPS in those games, around 160 FPS in Minecraft, and make good use of a 240Hz monitor where possible.

The RX 9070 GRE caught my attention, but some reviews made it sound like it might not be worth buying. The regular RX 9070 is currently too expensive for my budget. What graphics cards should I consider?

The RX 9070 GRE is probably the strongest new option in this price range, assuming you can find one at or below your budget. It offers the VRAM and 1440p performance you’re looking for, and your processor won’t hold it back.

The 9070 GRE is actually very competitive for its price. It may not match the regular 9070, but it’s still one of the better price-to-performance choices among new cards with at least 10GB of VRAM. A few negative reviews don’t necessarily mean it’s a poor buy; pricing and the specific model matter a lot.

I wasn’t saying the card was bad. I just watched a couple of reviews that concluded it wasn’t worth the money, so I wanted to check whether there were better alternatives.

If you’re comfortable buying used, an RTX 3080 can often be found around $350. It’s somewhat slower than the RX 9070 GRE and uses more power, but it still has strong 1440p performance and could leave room in your budget for other upgrades. Just check the card’s condition and cooling before buying.
