I'm planning an extremely high-end gaming PC primarily for demanding AAA games at maximum settings and the highest practical frame rates. My budget is roughly €5,000–€6,000, although I can stretch to €7,000 if the additional spending provides a meaningful improvement.
I'm based in Amsterdam and can buy from reputable Dutch or EU retailers. I also need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and headset or headphones, but these only need to be reliable, comfortable, and good quality. I'd rather prioritize the PC's performance than spend heavily on peripherals.
The system should have at least 3 TB of fast NVMe storage, plenty of RAM for running multiple games, applications, browser tabs, launchers, Discord, and background tasks simultaneously, excellent cooling and airflow, dependable components, and good long-term upgrade potential. I'd like it to remain capable for several years.
I'm not trying to spend the full €7,000 unnecessarily. If €5,000–€6,000 already delivers essentially the best gaming performance available, I'd prefer to stop there. What parts and overall configuration would you recommend, and would an RTX 5090 be worthwhile compared with a less expensive GPU and a better monitor or other peripherals?

This is a difficult time to buy an ultra-expensive system because flagship GPU pricing is especially poor and newer CPU and GPU generations are on the horizon. One strategy is to choose an RTX 5080 now, use the savings for an excellent monitor, cooling, and peripherals, then upgrade the graphics card later. If maximum performance right now matters more than value, the 5090 is the fastest option, but it isn’t particularly good value.
A Ryzen 7 9800X3D paired with an RTX 5090 can fit close to the €7,000 ceiling, but the graphics card may consume most of the budget. A sensible high-end configuration would include 64 GB of DDR5-6000 memory, at least two fast NVMe drives totaling 4 TB, a well-ventilated case, and a quality 1,200 W ATX 3.x power supply. Don’t cut corners on the PSU when using a flagship GPU, and remember to reserve a meaningful portion of the budget for a 4K OLED monitor and the other peripherals.
For the workloads described, 64 GB of RAM is already plenty; 128 GB would mainly make sense for rendering, virtual machines, professional content creation, or another genuinely memory-heavy task. A gaming-focused 9800X3D, 64 GB of low-latency DDR5, and two 2 TB NVMe SSDs would be a more practical choice than overspending on exotic memory, premium motherboards, or unnecessary PCIe 5.0 storage.
The RTX 5090 is only really compelling if you’re targeting 4K with maximum settings, ray tracing, and very high frame rates. At 1440p, or even regular 4K gaming, an RTX 5080-class card can provide a much better balance. The money saved could go toward a high-refresh 4K QD-OLED display, which may improve the experience more than paying an enormous premium for the last few percent of GPU performance.
Make sure the specific multitasking requirements are clear before choosing a more expensive processor. Gaming, browser tabs, Discord, and launchers generally don’t require a workstation CPU or 128 GB of memory. If you also run heavy rendering, virtual machines, compiling, or other sustained workloads, then a higher-core-count processor could be justified; otherwise, spend the difference on the display and GPU.
