What's the Best RAM Configuration for a 64GB AM5 Ryzen Build?

I'm looking to build an AM5 Ryzen system and I'm considering getting 64GB of RAM. What are the recommended timings and CAS latency for optimal performance with 64GB? Should I go with 2x32GB sticks or 4x16GB sticks? I've heard that a CAS latency of 30-32 is ideal for 32GB configurations, but I'm curious about what's best for 64GB.

Honestly, if you're even debating that much RAM, I'd say you probably don't need 64GB. A 32GB setup with CL30 or CL32 might be more than enough unless you're running super heavy applications like a heavily modded Minecraft server alongside other demanding tasks. Just keep in mind your actual usage needs!

For an AM5 setup, you'll want to stick with 2x32GB RAM because AM5 tends to have trouble running 4 sticks at their advertised speeds. Aim for DDR5 6000MTs with CL30 for stability and performance. While 4 sticks might seem tempting, they can lead to boot issues or unstable performance. So yeah, 2x32GB is definitely the way to go!

You definitely want to go with 2x32GB sticks. Not only does it help with stability, but for RAM at this capacity, DDR5 6000 CL30 is typically the best balance of speed and latency. Higher latency or lower frequency kits might save you some cash, but they won't perform as well in demanding tasks. A couple of benchmarks can help you see the actual performance differences if you're weighing options!

Going for 2x32GB is wise. I've heard that AMD's memory controllers can struggle with 4 modules, especially at higher speeds like 6000MHz. You typically want to stay around CL30 to maintain good performance without running into compatibility issues. Plus, hitting speeds above 6000MHz isn't always worth the extra expense with marginal gains.

I second the 2x32GB 6000MHz CL30 recommendation. It's generally the sweet spot for DDR5 on AMD processors. If you can find a kit with lower CAS latency than 30, that's even better! However, just a heads up that the differences might not be significant unless you're really pushing the system to its limits.

CurrentBuild32: Iโve been running 32GB just fine; it really depends on what youโre using it for.
