What’s the best-value GPU for 1080p gaming at 144Hz?

I'm planning to build a new gaming PC and want a graphics card that can handle 1080p at 144Hz without spending extra on performance I won't use. I'm mainly looking for the best price-to-performance option rather than the most powerful card available. I don't have a strict budget yet, so I'd appreciate recommendations for both new and used GPUs, along with any models I should avoid.

A used RTX 3080, especially the 12GB version, can deliver excellent performance, but it’s more GPU than you need for standard 1080p. The RTX 4060 Ti is another option, though its value depends heavily on the sale price. I’d compare it directly with the 9060 XT before buying.

Also consider the Intel Arc B580 if pricing is good where you live. Other reasonable choices include a used RX 6900 XT or RTX 3070 Ti, although those may use more power than necessary for 1080p. The 9060 XT makes more sense if you want a current card with newer features and a warranty.

The RX 9060 XT with 16GB is probably the strongest all-around value among newer cards for this target. It should handle high-refresh 1080p well and gives you more VRAM headroom than many 8GB options. If you’re shopping used, an RX 6700 XT is about the lowest I’d consider for a good 1080p gaming experience.

You don’t need a top-end card for 1080p at 144Hz. A used RTX 3060 Ti can still perform very well and may be a good deal, though its 8GB of VRAM is becoming a limitation in newer games. Older cards like the GTX 1080 Ti or 1070 Ti can still manage 1080p, but they’re less attractive unless you find one very cheaply.

Thanks, that helps. I’ll compare the RX 9060 XT 16GB with used options such as the RTX 3080 and RX 6700 XT, while keeping power use and actual pricing in mind.
