I'm an expat living in Hungary and I'm trying to call back home to Turkey, specifically some government and bank numbers. My mobile plan allows for international calls, but it's really expensive. I've been using WhatsApp for calls and messages, but now I need to reach landlines. I've done some searching online, but there are just too many options and some seem like scams. Can anyone provide some clear advice or options for this?

Calling landlines abroad isn't actually hard, but it seems tricky because of different systems. Just remember that WhatsApp only calls other WhatsApp numbers, not landlines. To reach landlines, you really need a phone plan that supports international calls. Your current plan might be pricey, so explore options for providers that offer better rates or free international calls. If your phone supports eSIM, you can add another provider just for international calls.

Skype used to be a lifesaver for this! I used it to call Ukraine from Austria without destroying my wallet. You could grab a prepaid card and get better rates than most mobile contracts.
