I'm looking to quickly set up a few straightforward websites for my business—nothing too fancy. In the past, I would install WordPress on my hosting service, set up my pages, install plugins, select and purchase a theme, and then add my photos and content. But now I'm wondering if there's a more modern and efficient way to create these simple personal websites?

The 'best' option really depends on how much you want to manage yourself versus paying for someone else to do it. If you want control and low ongoing costs, go for WordPress or explore static site generators like Hugo or 11ty. For a hands-off approach, platforms like Squarespace or Webflow eliminate the hassle of updates and hosting. It’s about balancing control versus convenience.

If you're looking for something with even less maintenance, consider a platform like Squarespace. I haven’t used WordPress in a while, but it sounds like it might still be the easiest guide since you're already familiar with it.

Honestly, sticking with WordPress is still a solid choice. It’s user-friendly, especially for those who aren't coding experts, and it’s relatively cheap to host. You can use WordPress as an editor, which generates the HTML files you'll need for your site.

Webflow has been great for clients who aren’t tech-savvy, but Wix and Squarespace have improved significantly too. Just keep in mind that if you decide to switch platforms later, transferring your site might get tricky.

There are so many options now! For a static website, just using HTML and CSS is a low-maintenance approach. If you need some back-end capabilities, something simple like a Go server or even Python/Node.js would work well. WordPress can sometimes be more than necessary for basic sites, so consider what features you truly need.
