I have hundreds of pages containing mostly pencil handwriting, math, and drawings or modeling sketches. I'd like to scan them efficiently, preferably with a phone or another practical setup, and combine the pages into organized digital documents. If possible, I'd also like the handwriting converted into editable text. A LibreOffice-based workflow would be fine as long as the finished files can be exported to Word-compatible formats for people who use different software. I'm unsure whether I need cloud storage or specialized hardware, so recommendations for a realistic workflow would be helpful.

The feature you want is called OCR, or optical character recognition. It can sometimes turn handwriting into editable text, but accuracy varies a lot and usually drops with pencil, unusual handwriting, equations, and diagrams. Scan the pages first, then run OCR only where it is useful. You can edit the resulting text in LibreOffice and export it as DOCX for broader compatibility.
Cloud services and mobile apps from major storage providers often include document-scanning tools for both iPhone and Android. They’re convenient for automatically organizing and syncing scans, though you should check the privacy settings before uploading personal material. For pages with important drawings, retain the original scan because OCR may ignore or distort the visual parts.
For hundreds of pages, a sheet-feed scanner at a library, office-supply store, or print shop could save a lot of time. Scanning everything into PDFs is fairly straightforward, but converting handwritten pages into accurate editable text is much more difficult, especially with math and sketches. You may get the best results by keeping the scans as PDFs and transcribing only the sections that need editing.
A phone document-scanning app can capture pages one after another and combine them into a single PDF.
