What's the best way to play movies from an external SSD on my TV?

I'm looking for a way to watch movies stored on my external SSD directly on my TV. I usually just use VLC to watch them on my laptop, but I want to bypass that and enjoy them on the TV screen. I'm open to buying any necessary equipment to make this happen. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Answers
If your TV has a USB port and supports the file formats on your SSD, you can just plug it in! Many smart TVs can directly read external drives these days.
