What’s the best way to remove tape from an old TV?

I recently discovered an older Vizio smart TV while cleaning out a storage room, but it has a strip of Gorilla tape stuck to it. The TV works fine, and I want to give it to a friend, but I need to get the tape and any glue residue off first. Will using something like Goo Gone or rubbing alcohol be safe to use on it, or could it damage the plastic?

I recommend using rubbing alcohol for this. Just be careful with Goo Gone since it might harm the plastic on the TV. Alcohol usually does a good job without causing damage.

Definitely test the alcohol on a small, inconspicuous area first, just to be sure it won't hurt the finish.

I'd start with 70% isopropyl alcohol. It's usually pretty safe on electronics and does a decent job with residues.

You could also try WD-40, or a similar product. It's great for removing sticky residues like that! Just apply it, let it sit for a minute, and wipe it off.

Eucalyptus oil might work as a natural option if you want something non-toxic. It's good for breaking down adhesive, but test it out first just in case.

Laying the TV flat and spraying a bit of Goo Gone on the tape can work too. Let it sit for about an hour before you start peeling it off. But honestly, if your friend is okay with it, they could handle this job themselves.

That's a solid plan! Just make sure they know how to clean it safely afterward!
