What’s the best way to update BIOS from an executable file?

I have an Acer Nitro V 15 laptop, and the only BIOS update available from the main website is in an .exe format. I'm wondering if I can run this through a virtual machine, or if I'd need to dual boot into Windows. I'd prefer to stick with Linux if possible, but I want to make sure I can get the update done properly.

Yeah, you’ll need to update in Windows. That .exe is likely a program designed specifically for the BIOS, and BIOS updates aren't just standard executables.

You definitely won't be able to run that .exe in a VM – BIOS updates need to happen outside the OS environment. You'll most likely need to install Windows, but even an old hard drive will work for that. Just pop it in and you'll be good to go.

You have to do it in Windows; I've got an Acer too and faced the same issue. Just keep an old Windows machine or HDD handy. It's not ideal, but that's how it goes.
