I currently have a Gigabyte B550 Gaming V2 motherboard, a Ryzen 5 3600, an RTX 3060 Ti, and 16GB of DDR4-3200 memory. I'd like to move to DDR5 and want the cheapest sensible upgrade path. I'm in the UK, but I don't have a strict budget—just looking for solid value without buying unnecessarily expensive parts.

Moving to DDR5 would require replacing the motherboard, processor, and memory together. Your current B550 board only supports DDR4, so you can’t just swap in DDR5 sticks. For a sensible UK upgrade, you’d likely need a newer DDR5-compatible motherboard, a compatible CPU, and a 32GB DDR5 kit, which can become fairly expensive. Since you already have an RTX 3060 Ti, staying on AM4 may offer better value: update the BIOS and consider a Ryzen 7 5700X3D, along with 32GB of DDR4-3200 or DDR4-3600. That gives you a strong gaming upgrade without replacing the whole platform.
That makes sense. I was expecting the DDR5 route to cost quite a bit, so I’ll compare the price of a 5700X3D and extra DDR4 memory before deciding.
