What’s the Cheapest Cooler That Can Handle a Ryzen 5 5600X3D?

I'm considering the Micro Center bundle with the Ryzen 5 5600X3D and want to keep the cooler as inexpensive as possible without giving up reliable performance. Would a budget single-tower air cooler be enough, or should I go with a larger dual-tower model to avoid high temperatures or thermal throttling during sustained workloads?

I’d go with a dual-tower air cooler rather than trying to save a few dollars with a small single-tower model. With good case airflow, the Phantom Spirit 120 SE can keep the processor under control even during demanding workloads. The 5600X3D can run warmer because its stacked cache adds heat, so large air coolers are generally a better value than an AIO.

A basic single-tower cooler from Thermalright or Montech may work for lighter use and can cost around $15–20, but a dual-tower cooler is the safer budget option for sustained loads. Something like the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE offers much more thermal headroom for roughly $30.

A Thermalright Peerless Assassin is a solid choice and usually gives you plenty of cooling for the money. It’s inexpensive, performs well, and should handle the 5600X3D comfortably.
