What’s the cheapest way to work online while my router is being repaired?

My router suddenly stopped working, and because of the repair schedule—and my landlord being away—I may be without home Wi‑Fi for around 10 days. I work from home, so I've been using my phone's hotspot, but I'm worried that working online for eight hours a day will use too much mobile data. Is there a cheap, simple alternative, or is relying on my phone hotspot realistic for that long?

If you only need internet for work, consider using a public library, a coffee shop, or another local workspace for some days. A library is usually more practical for long work sessions. You could also ask your employer whether working from the office temporarily is possible.

Buying an inexpensive compatible router may be the simplest long-term solution. Ask the provider which models work with your service and whether they need to activate it. Once your regular router is repaired, you’ll have a spare for future failures.

A prepaid mobile broadband dongle or portable hotspot could be a good middle ground. Some come with a fixed amount of data, while others offer unlimited use for a set number of days. Just compare the data limits and coverage before buying.

A temporary unlimited-data phone or mobile hotspot plan might work, but keep video streaming, software updates, and other heavy use to a minimum. If your setup includes a separate modem, you could also ask the provider whether your computer can connect directly by Ethernet, although that depends on the service and usually supports only one device.

Contact the internet provider and ask whether you can temporarily use a different router. You may be able to buy or borrow a compatible one and have them register or authorize it on the connection. It’s also worth asking a neighbor or friend if you can temporarily use their Wi‑Fi.
