What’s the easiest way to archive a few WhatsApp chats as local web pages?

I'm planning to stop using WhatsApp, but I'd like to preserve one or two conversations, including the photos and videos I've already saved on my computer. I was thinking about creating an HTML page that displays the chat history and links to the associated media files. Is that practical for a beginner, and would manually creating a local page be a good approach, or is there a simpler way to archive the conversations?

For a more polished result, there are tools that convert exported WhatsApp chats into HTML. Export the conversations first, then use one of those converters and follow its setup instructions. That avoids manually formatting every message and usually handles attached media more conveniently.

If you do build it yourself, keep the HTML file and media in one organized folder, such as an index page plus an images/videos subfolder. Use relative paths in the links so the archive continues to work if you move the whole folder to another computer.

Yes, a simple local webpage is completely feasible. An HTML file can contain the conversation text, while ordinary links or image and video elements can point to files stored in nearby folders. You can open the file directly in a browser, so you don’t necessarily need to install a web server. This would be a good small project if you’re interested in learning basic HTML.

First use WhatsApp’s built-in export-chat feature. It can save the conversation as a text file and optionally include the media, which gives you a reliable backup before doing anything else. You could then turn that exported text into an HTML page if you want a nicer browsing experience.
