I'm looking for the minimum modern GPU that can deliver a comfortable 2560×1440 experience. Ideally, it should have enough VRAM for high or ultra textures, while allowing more demanding settings such as shadows, reflections, vegetation, level of detail, clouds, volumetric effects, ray tracing, and global illumination to be reduced to maintain around 60 FPS. I'd also like enough performance and VRAM for Quality or Balanced FSR4/DLSS 4 upscaling and frame generation where supported. What GPU offers the best balance of price, longevity, and performance for this use case?

If the budget allows it, the RX 9070 GRE is a stronger choice. It offers roughly 30% more performance than the 9060 XT in a similar price range, making it better suited to maintaining 60 FPS in newer AAA games without turning as many settings down. The RX 9070 is another solid step up if it’s priced reasonably.
A 12GB RTX 3060 or similar card can technically meet these requirements if you’re comfortable using upscaling and optimized settings. I’ve seen a 3060 handle demanding games around 55–65 FPS at 1440p with DLSS Balanced, but it’s more of a budget compromise than a particularly future-proof choice.
For a new card, the RX 9060 XT 16GB is probably the practical starting point. It has enough VRAM for high-quality textures and should handle 1440p well with sensible settings and upscaling, although the newest demanding games may require more compromises than you’d expect from the word “ultra.”
For ray tracing, Nvidia’s RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is worth considering, though current pricing can make it poor value. The RTX 4070, RTX 4070 Ti Super, and newer equivalents offer stronger ray-tracing and frame-generation support, but they’re not really the minimum unless you want consistently high frame rates or fewer compromises.
Used RTX 3080 or 3080 Ti cards can still provide a very good 1440p experience, and the RX 6800 XT, RX 6950 XT, or RX 7800 XT are also capable options. Just keep in mind that older cards may lack newer frame-generation features, and 10GB of VRAM on the RTX 3080 can become limiting in some recent games.
The 16GB RTX 5060 Ti makes more sense when its price is close to the 9060 XT. At inflated prices, the AMD options provide noticeably better value.
