I'm moving across the country and shipping my desktop isn't practical, so I'm trying to figure out the safest way to take it on a plane. My current idea is to remove the graphics card and RAM, pack those in anti-static materials inside my carry-on, and put the computer case in checked luggage with plenty of padding. The case is roughly 24 inches tall by 10 inches wide, and it has a glass side panel. I won't be bringing the monitors. Would it be better to remove more components, or is there a safer way to pack and transport the PC?

If you have no choice but to check the case, protect the glass panel especially well and make sure the computer cannot move around inside the suitcase. Bubble wrap, rigid cardboard, and soft padding around every side should help, but checked bags can experience very hard drops, so carrying the complete PC by hand would be safer if you can manage it.
The biggest risk is checked-baggage handling. Even with an aluminum suitcase, a heavy impact can damage the motherboard, cooler, or other parts. For the safest option, remove as many internal components as practical and carry them with you. Leave only the case and fans in the checked bag, with the interior and exterior heavily padded.
Definitely remove the graphics card before traveling. RAM is probably fine installed, but taking it out too is reasonable since it’s small and expensive. Pack removable components in anti-static bags inside your carry-on, not in checked luggage.
The CPU cooler is an ID-COOLING Frost Flow, so it isn’t especially large. I was planning to leave it installed.
Some people have successfully carried a fully assembled mid-tower as hand luggage, especially when the case has a sturdy handle and no glass panels. That avoids the rough handling of checked bags, but it may not be practical if you also need your carry-on space for clothes and other belongings.

I was thinking of bracing the case on every side with padding, clothes, and towels. It also has a glass panel, so I’d wrap the outside in cardboard and bubble wrap. I’m still unsure whether that’s enough to safely leave some components installed.
